Guilford for All Local Endorsements
David Coates
School Board District 3
David Coates has extensive experience with school boards, having represented one as a lawyer in New Jersey prior to arriving in North Carolina. As a recent transplant, he is eager to listen to the needs of the Guilford County community. He is also running in a key race against a far-right candidate Michael Logan, whose appointment to the school board was the result of multiple state law changes and seeks to use his position to divide our communities and make public schools only serve some of us, not everyone who lives in our County.
Deborah Napper
School Board District 5
Deborah Napper gained her seat as an independent in the last election, and is running with a party for the first time. She is well-aligned with Guilford for All’s DNA and the People’s Agenda. She is especially strong on youth services and healthcare, and advocates for improved clinical access in schools. Going into her second term, Deborah Napper is interested in working with Guilford for All on co-governance.
Bettye Jenkins
Board of Education
District 7
Bettye Jenkins is an effective advocate who is responsive to community concerns. She is directly engaged with the needs of Guilford County Schools’ students and staff. In addition to school-community relationship building, she has worked to improve nutritional access for Guilford County students. She is committed to working with Guilford for All on co-governance.
Mary Beth Murphy
County Commissioner
District 4
Mary Beth Murphy has an established relationship with Guilford for All and is enthusiastic about continuing to work with us. She is well-aligned with our values and has an established record of integrity and competence. As a teacher, she is passionate about childcare and equitable access in education.
Jeff Thigpen
Register of Deeds
Jeff Thigpen has shown a strong commitment to Guilford for All’s DNA, as well as most of the People’s Agenda. He is very interested in co-governance with our organization, and has used his office to advance social justice in the community and state-wide. In his long political career, he has demonstrated the ability to coordinate with other agencies and offices.

We believe our endorsements are the best options to support a thriving multiracial democracy in Guilford County and North Carolina. Our communities should have the freedom to thrive, to be free from discrimination and to not have some of our basic rights taken away because of the differences that make our communities vibrant and beautiful: Our race, gender, sexuality, and gender identity, and more.
Practicing democracy and organizing is how we can win systems and institutions that work to benefit all of us, not just a wealthy few. Learn more about our platform.
